ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) Maryland citizens would choose whether to legalize leisure marijuana in November, under an expense authorized by the Home of Delegates on Friday. The House voted 96-34 for the constitutional change, sending it to the Senate. The Home also voted 92-37 for a separate expense that includes initial actions that would be taken if voters authorize.
The Senate is thinking about a different expense that would put a regulative structure in location sooner without a constitutional modification. Under your house legislation, recreational cannabis for adults 21 and over would be legal July 1, 2023. It would make modifications in criminal law and create automated expungements of past cannabis possession convictions.
In addition, it allows for resentencing of those founded guilty of cannabis charges. Del. Luke Clippinger, a Baltimore Democrat who is sponsoring the measure, stated Maryland was at the beginning of an important procedure in reconsidering how the state has treated marijuana and the imprisonment of thousands."We stand here today as a body to start the procedure to take these first actions to legalizing marijuana, to looking next year to see how the regulative part would work, how the tax part would work, but taking the important primary steps now in the locations of public security and public health to make certain that we do this, that we do it right, and we do it through a lens of equity," Clippinger, who is your home Judiciary Committee, said.
